What is Qui Gong?

Qui gong in Reston, VA is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical positions, breathing techniques and forced intention. Two Chinese words comprise Qigong (Chi Kung). Qi is pronounced as chee and is normally translated to mean the life force or vital-energy that flows through all things in the universe. The 2nd word, Gong, connotes accomplishment, or skill that is cultivated through steady practice. Putting them together, Qi and Gong can be translated as cultivating energy. It is a system used for health maintenance, healing and improving vitality.

Qigong practices can be classified as martial, medical, or spiritual. Styles utilize (1) a posture, moving or stationary, (2) a breathing technique and (3) mental focus. Qigong practices also do one or some of the following: circulate and utilize Qi, cleanse and heal the body, or store and release Qi. Practices vary from the soft internal gentle styles like Tai Chi: to the external, vigorous styles such as Kung fu. The great thing about most Qigong forms is that the slow gentle movements would pose no problem to almost anyone – even to the physically challenged.

Similar to any other system of health care, Qigong isn’t a panacea, but it’s certainly a highly effective health care practice. Many health care specialists recommend Qui gong in Reston, VA as an important form of alternative complementary medicine.
