Stress and Diet – The Relationship
Have you ever know about Ayurveda? It is the traditional Indian medical science. Ayurveda states the food that we eat has a critical role to play in the fashion in which the mind and body functions. Certain foods cause more stress while others relax the body and mind. Since stress is regarded more of apsychological issue, not many know that diet can play a serious role in stress management. Certain sorts of foods magnify the physical symptoms of stress while others ease physical manifestations of stress.
Therefore, it is plain that certain foodstuffs should be avoided during stress and some that should be consumed more than others.
One of them is sugar. Sugar is nothing but empty calories and is processed right after its ingested, giving an immediate boost to the adrenal glands. Therefore you’re feeling good after having sweets. should realize is this taxes the adrenal glands as they’re already over-worked. Its like putting them on steroids. Also, being empty in calories, our body has to use enzymes, vitamins and minerals from its saving account to process the sugar. Over a period, a diet rich in sugar, drains the body off vitamins and minerals and makes it puny and more at the mercy of stress.
Another food that makes the adrenalin glands to work diligently is caffeine. Caffeine is present in coffee, tea and colas and given the elevated amounts of these beverages that we consume, stress levels aredefinitely higher in this generation as compared to the earlier ones.
Highly packaged foods like processed flour ( present in bread to a massive extent ) have nothing apart from empty calories and are void of nutrient elements. These refined foods donot have fiber too. This is the cause of bowel problems and body cannot throw out wastes and poisons efficiently.
In addition, to add to the irony of the situation, these ready-made foods are first stripped of the vitamins and nutrients and then later unnaturally fortified to attract consumers who are on the lookout for better and healthy products. It is far more beneficial to have natural and whole foods in order to keep the natural nutriments that are part of nature’s design.
Whole foods like unprocessed wheat, oats, whole grains, fruits, veggies are what you must include as an element of your diet. Make sure that these fruit and vegetables arenot processed and canned ones but fresh and raw. Fruit and veg contain a fair amount of fiber and so help in easy elimination of toxins and waste products. They also take more time to digest, and thus release energy slowly and gradually, compared to short bursts in energy associated with fast food. As a result you do not feel hungry between meals and your energy level in constant throughout.
A high nutritive diet is what the body wishes to fight stress. We are what we eat. By changing our point of view to nutritive our body than satisfying our tastes, we can go a good distance is building a healthy and stress-free body.
