Smoking leads to death - Introduction
It might take 10 years or 30 years, but in the end, there is no question that your lungs will become severely affected. There are just too many disadvantages associated with smoking.
Reports have indicated that over 400,000 people eventually die every year in the United States because of illnesses caused by cigarette smoke. As much as 90% of lung cancer fatalities have been linked to a lifestyle of smoking. Smoking is also linked to the development of other forms of cancer such as cancer of the larynx, oral cavity, bladder, pancreas and kidney.
There are some other side effects that develop even more quickly. One such example is the development of stains on the fingers and teeth of smokers. The presence of nicotine in the blood has been shown to cause a constriction of arteries, thereby lowering of the body temperature. The body is also put through a mild attack of Carbon Mono oxide poisoning every time smoking is done.
Sadly, the risk of smoking is not only limited to smokers. Non smokers are as well. Statistics from the United Environmental Protection agency, suggests that secondary smoking (the inhalation of smoke by people next to smoker) is the cause of about 35,000 deaths each year. It is also known to increase the incidences of asthma attacks, as well as aggravate conditions such as pneumonia and bronchitis.
The benefits of quitting smoking is clear; the risks of diseases is greatly reduced. Some of the other advantages from quitting smoking are less expenses, reduced health insurance premiums and ultimately improved social standing.
Unfortunately, quitting smoking is known to be difficult because of the addictive effects of Nicotine. The process however can be done assisted along with a number of methods.
