This is not true at all, however, as the majority of evidence links atherosclerosis as the primary cause of <a href="http://www.FunctionalHolisticWellness.us" target='_blank'>coronary heart disease</a>, a condition caused when ruptured scar tissue appears within artery linings, as opposed to the actual buildup of plaque on the walls themselves. Certain scientists believe that as cholesterol moves within our bloodstream it invariably sticks to the artery walls, leading to a heart attack, even though a body of opinion provides contrary evidence. A great deal of publicity has been given to the circulation of cholesterol within our bloodstream, automatically linked to saturated fat content and we are told that these two &#8220;evils&#8221; inevitably provide a dangerous blockage as they cling to the artery linings.</p>

<p>It is far more likely that cellular damage and inflammation in the artery walls, leading to atherosclerosis, can be caused by high blood sugar, poor nutrition, stress, or high blood pressure, a sad consequence of our modern lifestyles. While research dating back to the 1950s tells us that heart disease is supposedly linked to the amount of fat in our diets, there&#8217;s been plenty of contradictory evidence, although this has not achieved such strong exposure. Consider the Eskimos and how they live. Their diet is almost exclusively based on meat intake and yet their life spans are higher than average.</p>
<p>The Surgeon General advises us how to construct our diets. The Surgeon tells us not to eat saturated fats, but to focus on monounsaturated fats or polyunsaturated fats, but the majority of vegetable oils are high in Omega-6 fatty acids; most of us don&#8217;t counterbalance this with Omega-3 fatty acids, the beneficial acids found in fish. If we do as we&#8217;re told and look at the diets low in <a href="http://www.FunctionalHolisticWellness.us" target='_blank'>trans fat</a>, or even high in carbohydrates, we can end up with elevated blood sugar which is also indicated for atherosclerosis.</p>

<p>Everybody can be hypnotized. The time required for achieving hypnosis will differ from subject to subject. We will discuss some of the reasons for this in a subsequent chapter but for our debate at this time we need to understand this point. I have encountered numerous individuals who were very disappointed because they did not make a response to hypnosis immediately or after several attempts. They needed to know &#8220;what was wrong.&#8221; An explanation that nothing was wrong somehow didn&#8217;t satisfy these individuals. &#8220;After all,&#8221; they argued, &#8220;failed to I go to a hypnotist particularly to be hypnotized?&#8221; Some insinuated that perhaps the hypnotist was not very good.</p>

<p>Let me explain that most subjects have to be conditioned for hypnosis, and this conditioning is helped when the [14] subject practices certain conditioning exercises that I shall discuss in depth in chapter 6, titled &#8220;How To Attain Self-Hypnosis.&#8221; In my teaching, i have found that about one out of 10 subjects reacts to the first attempt at hypnosis. One can&#8217;t make a definite statement re the length of time necessary to learn self-hypnosis, but it is my experience that this sometimes takes about one month. I&#8217;ve had subjects learn self-hypnosis in about 30 minutes, but I must also relate that I have worked with subjects for one year before they achieved it.</p>
<p>For the most part, the laws of learning apply to self-hypnosis as with anything else that one would like to learn. It can be a relatively easy process, or it can be particularly bewildering. The answer lies not so much with the hypnotist as with the topic.</p>
<p>One question that arises is : &#8220;if i&#8217;m under hypnosis, how can I give myself suggestions?&#8221; during the hypnotic state, it must be recalled, the subject is always mindful of what is happening. He hears what&#8217;s declared, follows directions and cancels the state when ordered to do so. In the self-hypnotic state, the topic is in full control.  he can think, reason, act, criticise, suggest or do whatever he wants. He will be able to audibly give himself suggestions, or he can mentally give himself suggestions. In either case, he doesn&#8217;t rouse from the hypnotic state till he gives himself specific ideas to do so. Many feel if they audibly give themselves suggestions, they&#8217;ll &#8220;awaken.&#8221; In hypno-analysis, the topic answers questions during the hypnotic state. Having the subject talk doesn&#8217;t end the state. You can keep the chatty subject under hypnosis as long as you need. Additionally, the topic can be sitting erect with his eyes open and still be under hypnosis. Carrying this further, the topic may not even be advised that he is [15] under hypnosis. He can be given a cue not to remember when the consultant makes a certain motion or claims a certain word that he&#8217;s going to go into the hypnotic state but still keep his eyes open. Only a seasoned hypnotist could perceive the change.</p>
<p>Another frequent question is : &#8220;How do I awaken myself from the self-hypnotic state?&#8221; You merely say to oneself that on counting to five you&#8217;ll open your eyes and wake up feeling fine. Many times the subject goes to sleep while giving himself posthypnotic suggestions. This isn&#8217;t unattractive since the proposals will spill over into the subconscious mind as he is going from consciousness to unconsciousness.</p>
<p>A popular opinion about hypnosis is that the subject surrenders his will to the hypnotist in the act of being hypnotized. Furthermore, many are convinced that once the subject is hypnotised, the hypnotist has total control of the subject and the subject is defenseless to oppose recommendation. Both convictions are erroneous. I think the 1st misconception comes from seeing methods where the hypnotist requests the subject to have a look into his eyes. The hypnotist suggests to the topic that as he continues to take a look at his eyes he is going to fall into a deep hypnotic state. This, then, becomes a matter of who can outstare whom. The topic sometimes starts to blink his eyes and the hypnotist follows this up with fast ideas that the subject&#8217;s eyes are becoming watery and heavy and that the subject will fall into a deep hypnotic sleep just as fast as he ( the subject ) closes his eyes. This process gives the impression to the observer that the subject is &#8220;willed&#8221; to go under hypnosis. It would seem that once the hypnotist concentrates or wills sufficiently, the topic succumbs. In actual fact the hypnotist in this method is not looking into the eyes of the subject. [16] He fixes his attention on the bridge of the nose of the topic. </p>
