Conquering Stress Through Breathing

Do you know that chronic stress can, and will, wreck absolute havoc on your health? It’s true and the effects are both mental and physical….

If you are stressed, you may feel irritated, and anxious. Though each of us deals with stress in or own different way, there are a few common steps you can take to alleviate the situation- one of those methods being focus on breathing.

Breathing is the only thing we do every minute of the day and is essential to our survival.  When we are stressed, our breathing becomes quick and erratic. By learning how to control your breathing in stressful situations, you can calm yourself down, eliminate anxiety and think with a clear head.  This is especially important if the situation requires you to make a very quick, crucial decision.

Here is the technique:

First off, it’s worth mentioning that this technique is SO simple, it can be done anywhere.

With your eyes closed, take a slow deep breath in through your nose and then exhale it through your mouth.  Repeat this process several times making sure to keep your eyes closed the whole time.  Eventually, you will literally feel yourself relax and then you can get back on with your daily duties.

Alternatively, you could choose to inhale while covering one nostril for a short time and then repeat it with the other side a few deep breaths later.  This simple technique requires you to refocus your thoughts on your breathing and allows a quick break from your immediate stressful situation.
